Joel Rozen
Dr. Joel Rozen, Owner:
In 2007, Joel was selected as one of the American Riding Instructor Association's (ARIA) Top 50 Riding Instructors.
I have had an interest in horses from a very young age. My mother had shown ponies in her youth and my father from Poland/Russia used horses as transportation and to work the family lumber business. Both parents instilled an interest in horses.
I started riding at age 5 and took lessons at many of the barns in the south hills area. My sisters also all rode horses and ponies.
Being very competitive, I enjoyed showing horses in English, hunters, jumpers, western and reining. I have also done penning, competitive trials , race horses flat and sulky.
During college and dental school, time did not allow too much interaction with horses. I started to ride again shortly after dental school. I made regular trips to Mountaineer race track to buy race horses and retrain them. I have owned, trained and sold hundreds of horses and ponies over the years to satisfied customers.
I find now that I enjoy training horses and teaching as much as I did showing.
In 1994 I purchased over 40 acres in Finleyville to build what is now Timber Oaks Farm.
My philosophy on horse management is to provide good nutrition, clean plentiful water, stalls with open bars that allow the horses to see the herd, regular turnout , an airy well lighted stall area, good footing and attention to detail in order to keep the horse physically and mentally fit. I know our horses suffer less injury and remain healthy due to the excellent care we provide.
Being locked in a stall is not the normal environment for a horse. My stable tries to keep the horses out with the herd as much as possible to simulate a natural environment, grazing and interaction with other horses. I firmly believe to let the horse be a horse.

Our other commitment is to the riders/boarders. My goal is to provide a safe facility, obtain healthy good minded horses that allow the rider to enjoy themselves.
The horse business is full of shady characters, my job as an owner is to protect my clients and to allow them to enjoy their horses and our sport.
I feel over the 40 years in the horse business, that I have gained substantial knowledge and am happy to share my expertise with my students and boarders.
I want Timber Oaks Farm to be a safe friendly place for horse and rider. Every one boarding here should feel like family.
